4,794 people arrested from 2018 to 2020 for hurting religious sentiments, UP topped

Parliament Monsoon Session: The Ministry of Home Affairs told in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday that Hurting Religious Sentiments and religion  A total of 4,794 people were arrested between 2018 and 2020 for promoting enmity between groups based on religion, race and place of birth. Out of these arrests, 1,716 people were arrested in the year 2018, with Uttar Pradesh on top with 628 arrests in these three years, followed by Tamil Nadu in 28 states and eight union territories. There have been 613 arrests in Nadu, 552 in Kerala, 387 in Andhra Pradesh.

Not a single arrest in Union Territories
It was told by the government that in these three years a total of 34 arrests were made in Jammu and Kashmir while 31 such arrests were also made from Delhi. As per the data compiled by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) and shared by the Minister, "Not a single arrest was made from the Union Territories of Ladakh, Puducherry, Lakshadweep and Chandigarh."

NI registers 17 cases

In cases registered against hurting religious sentiments  On behalf of the government, Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) registered 17 cases between 2017 and July 29, 2022 for hurting religious sentiments and promoting enmity. Out of these 17 cases, the NIA has registered one case in 2017, four in 2018, two in 2019, three each in 2020 and 2021 and four till July 29 this year.
