Cricket Australia have named strong squads for the all-format tour of Sri Lanka in June-July later this year. Three T20Is, five ODIs, and a couple of Test matches will be played in the tour and the Aussies have named near full-strength squads, with most players who missed the white-ball leg of the Pakistan tour due to IPL returning to the fold.
Pat Cummins is a notable exclusion from the T20I squad as the talismanic fast bowler has been rested. As far as the Test squad is concerned, opener Marcus Harris is a notable absentee alongside pacer Mark Steketee. Both players, however, are part of the Australia A squad which will also travel to the Island nation for a shadow tour.
As the likes of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Glenn Maxwell, David Warner, Steve Smith, and Matthew Wade have returned to the white-ball set-up, the Aussies will head into the series as firm favourites. Interestingly, Ben McDermott, who scored his maiden ODI century in Pakistan last month, has been excluded from the squad. Adam Zampa will also miss the entire tour as the leg-spinner is expecting his first child with his wife.
We are looking further forward to the ODI World Cup: George Bailey
“These are very targeted to skill sets and what we see as the bulk of the squad for the home T20 World Cup and looking further forward to the ODI World Cup,” said Men’s Chair of National Selectors George Bailey.
“We were able to continue to build our depth with great white ball performances in Pakistan on the back of a superb Test Series. As selectors this has been one of the most rewarding parts amid the challenges of the past few years,” he added.
