Biometric made mandatory for child Aadhaar card, know how to update

Baal Aadhaar Card: Baal Aadhaar is the Aadhaar card of children. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has made it mandatory for children in the age group of five to 15 years to update biometric information in Aadhaar data. In a recent tweet, UIDAI announced that it is now mandatory to update biometric details of children in the age group of 5-15 years. Its process is free. However, after updating the biometric details, there will be no change in the child’s Aadhaar number. UIDAI  advises parents to visit their nearest Aadhaar enrollment center to update details of their children.

Child Aadhaar Card Biometric Update

UIDAI issues 12 digit Aadhaar number to all children below the age of 5 years. However, fingerprints do not develop beyond the age of 5, so parents are asked to update biometric details after that age group.

Follow the steps mentioned here to apply for Child Aadhaar Card. 

  • Visit the official UIDAI website and "Aadhar card" Click on the registration option
  • Now enter the required details about the child including name, guardian’s name, parent’s phone number etc.
  • Residential Address, Locality, Enter demographic details like state and others.
  • Once all this is done, check all the entered details and click “Submit” Tap on.
  • Now the “Appointment” Tap on the option.
  • Select the nearest Aadhaar Enrollment Centre. 

While visiting the centre, you will need to carry documents like identity proof, address proof, relationship proof, date of birth and reference number. Once the details are processed, you will receive a number which you can use to track the application process. Then you will receive the Child Aadhaar Card through post within 60 days at your address.

How To Update Child Aadhaar Card

Visit the official website of UIDAI and book an appointment at your nearest Aadhaar Enrollment Center to get biometric details updated. Now carry the necessary documents including your child’s birth certificate, identity proof and address documents. Parents will also need to carry their Aadhaar card to update their child’s biometric details. The staff working at the center will add biometric details like facial image and fingerprints. Then you will get the slip.
