BJP leader shot dead in Manipur, main accused surrenders, second arrested

Manipur BJP Leader Shot Dead: A BJP leader was shot dead in Manipur’s Thoubal district on Tuesday, after which the main accused surrendered before the police. Another person was arrested there.  Thoubal Superintendent of Police (SP) Haobijam Jogeshchandra said Laishram Rameshwar Singh, convenor of the ex-servicemen cell of BJP’s state unit, was killed near the gate of his residence in Kshetri area this morning.

He told that two people came in a car without registration number and fired at Singh from close range around 11 am. Singh, 50, received bullet injuries in his chest and was rushed to a private hospital, where he died. Jogesh Chandra told that a few hours after the incident, the person driving the vehicle has been identified as Naorem Ricky Pointing Singh. He was arrested.

The driver, a resident of Kinau in Bishnupur district, was caught in Haobam Marak area of ​​Imphal West district. Police launched a massive manhunt for the main accused, identified as 46-year-old Ayekpam Keshorjit, and appealed to surrender, warning people against giving shelter to him.
