CWG Hockey Final: Why Indian hockey team lost in the final against Australia? the coach told

CWG 2022, Hockey Final: Disappointed by a poor performance in the final of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, Indian men’s hockey coach Graham Reid has criticized his players, saying they have the power to beat a strong Australia. He lacked the required energy and skill. After a humiliating 7-0 defeat in the one-sided final, the Indian team had to be content with a silver medal.

There is a thing called energy and I don’t think we had that today, Reid told PTI after the match.  This can happen sometimes when you play for Australia. But I am disappointed that we didn’t play well at all. We showed ourselves below. He couldn’t do the things we talked about before the match. It’s disappointing.

This is Australia’s third win over the Indian team in the finals of these games. The team had earlier also been defeated by Australia in Delhi and Glasgow (2014). Asked about the pressure, Reid said, ‘‘ There will always be pressure at the big level. It will never go away. Who knows what the history is, it’s hard to predict. I told them that the most important thing is to do our best and the result will come by itself. Said we still have a lot to improve.’’

The biggest disappointment was of PR Sreejesh, who was participating in his last Commonwealth Games. Had Sreejesh not been ahead of the goal, the margin of defeat would have been more. It was difficult for him to digest this defeat. He said, ‘‘ ; We didn’t win the silver medal, we lost the gold. It’s disappointing, but reaching the finals in a tournament like Commonwealth Games is a great thing.’’
