Death toll rises to 268 in Indonesia earthquake, 151 still missing

Indonesia Earthquake: The tragedy of the earthquake in Indonesia on Monday has caused great devastation. Here the death toll in the earthquake has increased to 268, while 151 people are still being reported missing. The tremors of the earthquake were so strong that the earth kept shaking for several minutes. According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake was centered in the Cianjur region of West Java province, with a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 mi). 

According to the head of Indonesia’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency, 268 people have been confirmed killed by the earthquake, while 151 people are still missing. Officials told that 22 thousand houses have been damaged in the earthquake affected area. More than 1,000 people have been injured in this attack of nature. 

Siyanjur city was the epicenter

According to US Geological Survey data, the epicenter of the earthquake was in Cianjur city of West Java. The epicenter of this 5.6 magnitude earthquake was at a depth of only 10 km from the earth. The area where the earthquake occurred is densely populated. There is always a possibility of landslide here. Many buildings have collapsed due to earth shaking. The rescue operation to rescue people from the debris of the buildings is still going on. 

Highest number of hospital deaths

The head of the local administration of Cianjur told that most of the deaths have happened in a hospital where the patients were admitted and that hospital has been turned into ruins. He told Indonesian media that the city’s Sayang hospital had no electricity after the quake, leaving doctors unable to treat victims immediately. In which some patients died due to lack of treatment. He said that due to the huge number of patients, there was an urgent need for more health workers but now things are under control.

Earth shook in Mexico too

There was a 6.2 magnitude earthquake on Tuesday off the coast of Baja California in Mexico. As soon as the earthquake occurred, there was chaos there. People immediately came out of their houses and came on the road. The US Geological Survey (USGS) says the quake occurred about 30 km (18.6 mi) west-southwest of Las Brisas in Baja California at a depth of 19 km (12 mi). Earlier in September this year also earthquake tremors were felt here.
