Demonstration of farmers demanding compensation in Amritsar, jam on Bhandari bridge for hours

Amritsar Farmers Protest: People in Amritsar were stuck in a traffic jam for hours on Wednesday due to the demonstration of a group of farmers led by Bharti Kisan Union (Sidhupur). The farmers were protesting demanding higher compensation for land acquired for national highway projects, compensation for crop damage due to inclement weather and cancellation of cases against some farmers.

Tourists also faced a lot of trouble 

Police said that the protesters blocked the Aham Bhandari bridge, which connects the old city with other parts of Amritsar. Due to this, there was a three kilometer long jam on Wednesday evening and the passengers were stuck for hours. Metro bus service in the city was also badly affected. Tourists who came to see the Attari-Wagah border and the Golden Temple also faced a lot of trouble. In another protest in Patiala district, farmers blocked a toll plaza on the Chandigarh-Bathinda highway.

These roads were blocked

Amritsar The farmers, who were soft with the district administration during the dharna at Bhandari bridge, blocked the bridge on Wednesday evening, due to which the traffic came to a complete standstill. Earlier farmers had opened some roads keeping Sangad in mind, but as soon as State President Jagjit Singh Dallewal started addressing them, farmers blocked Crystal Chowk, Hall Gate, Rambagh, Railway Station and Elevated Road by jamming them. After this, a meeting was held with District Administration Officer Jagjit Singh Dallewal.  

Compensation to the families of the farmers killed during the agitation

Bharatiya Kisan Union  (Sidhupur) President Jagjit Singh Dallewal said that They do not want to disturb the devotees coming to the Golden Temple and the people of the city. The protesters demanded that the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab government compensate the families of farmers killed during the 2020 agitation against the three farm laws of the Center and provide relief to cotton and wheat growers who have suffered losses due to pest attacks and extended grants to villagers whose lands were being acquired for highway projects.
