Happy Birthday Mohanlal: Mohanlal Vishwanathan who is known as Mohanlal. He is an Indian Actor, Film Producer, Playback Singer, Film Distributor and Director, who predominantly works in Malayalam cinema. However, he also appears in some Tamil, Hindi, Telugu and Kannada language films. Mohanlal has an illustrious career spanning over four decades, during which he has acted in over 400 films. Mohanlal has been awarded the Padma Shri in 2001, and the Padma Bhushan in 2019, India’s fourth and third highest civilian honor by the Government of India. He has been honored for his contribution to Indian cinema. He is the only actor from South who has been awarded with such big awards in the country.
The actor is also associated with the Army and in 2009 he became the first actor in India to be awarded the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army. Mohanlal was named as one of the ‘men who changed the face of Indian cinema’.
Mohanlal was a professional wrestler who was finding success on the pitch before appearing in films. He was selected to participate in the national championship in New Delhi after winning the state wrestling title in 1977–1978. However, before he could participate in that, he got a call to audition for his first film at the same time and everything changed.
Very few people know that Mohanlal is a black belt in Taekwondo. The famous actor was awarded a ‘Black Belt’ by the World Taekwondo Headquarters in South Korea in 2012. He became the third Indian superstar after Shah Rukh Khan and Lal Thanhawla to receive the accolade and the first from South India to do so.
The actor has so far been honored with a total of four National Awards for his work in films. Three of these are for his acting abilities, and one for making an important film. For his roles in Bharatham and Vanaprastham, he won the National Award for Best Actor in 1991 and 1999. He was then given a special jury award in 2016 for the productions Pulimurugan, Muntrivallikal Thalirakkumbol and Janata Garage.
Mohanlal acted in the first Malayalam film that was submitted as India’s official entry to the Oscars. The film was titled Guru, and was released in 1997.
Apart from acting, Mohanlal’s presence in various fields is praised. He founded the music group Lalison – The Lal Effect in 2014. The band also played at the 2015 National Games of India.
Mohanlal is the only actor from South India to have received the IIFA Award. He received the award for his work in Hindi Film Company.
Mohanlal, who has an apartment on the 29th floor of Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, is the highest paid actor in the Malayalam cinema business.
