Gujarat Election 2022: Gujarat Assembly Elections is in full swing. This time a triangular contest can be seen between BJP, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party in the state. The BJP, which has been in power for the last 27 years, is trying its best to make a comeback this time too, while the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party are also exerting their full might. AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi is also claiming to win Muslim majority seats.
According to the last few elections, urban voters determine the power in Gujarat. Urban voters have a big hand in keeping BJP in power for the last 27 years. Since 1995, BJP’s tuti speaks in 44 urban seats of the state. On the basis of these seats, BJP has been successful in reaching power every time. In the tough contest held in 2017, the BJP was reduced to 99 seats, but out of these 44 seats, the lotus blossomed in 38. It was because of these seats that the power slipped in the hands of the Congress.
BJP’s focus on urban seats
In the 2012 assembly elections, BJP won 40 out of 44 urban seats. In 2017, BJP got only 99 seats. This was the smallest victory of BJP since 1995. In that election, the triumvirate of Hardik Patel, Jignesh Mevani and Alpesh Thakor had benefited the Congress. However, even after this, he could not remove BJP from power.
How much has the equation changed
Now the equations of these seats have completely changed. Hardik Patel and Alpesh Thakor are now with the BJP from the trio that prepared Chakravyuh against the BJP in the last election. This time he will enter the election field on a BJP ticket and shoot arrows against the opponents. Election strategists say that Shraddha murder case can benefit BJP.
AAP’s political strength in Gujarat
Gujarat’s 44 urban assembly seats come in 8 metropolitan municipalities – Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Gandhinagar, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar and Junagadh. The Aam Aadmi Party’s performance in the local body elections held this year was good. Apart from the post of Mayor of Surat, many councilors of the party had won. This is the reason why Kejriwal is claiming to form the AAP government in Gujarat this time.
It is a big mistake to take Congress lightly
Election strategists believe that the coming of former Congress President Rahul Gandhi can change the equation of Gujarat elections. Till now the matter which was being considered out of the Congress fight. Kejriwal was getting its direct benefit, but after Rahul’s landing, the matter will become triangular. There is still a core voter of the Congress in the state, which will become active after Rahul’s arrival. People say that if Rahul had come a little earlier, the contest would have been more interesting.
