Gujarat Elections 2022: Gujarat Assembly Elections, the triumvirate of Hardik Patel, Alpesh Thakor and Jignesh Mevani managed to stop the BJP’s rally to some extent. Hardik Patel started a big movement for reservation for Patidars and also led it. Alpesh Thakor worked to unite the OBCs and Jignesh Mevani united the Dalits. The result of the activism and movement of these three young leaders was that many BJP MLAs were defeated.
After five years now the situation has changed. Hardik Patel and Alpesh Thakor are seeking votes from the people of Gujarat as BJP candidates, while Jignesh Mevani, who contested as an independent last time, will contest from Vadgam this time on a Congress ticket.
29-year-old Hardik entered public life as a leader of the Patidar community. Hardik had already become a big leader of Gujarat before the 2017 elections, he joined the Congress in 2019 after the assembly elections and later became the working president of Gujarat. But in this election Hardik is the BJP candidate from his hometown Viramgam.
Five years ago i.e. in the 2017 assembly elections, Alpesh Thakor was the Congress candidate. At that time, during the election campaign, he created a controversy by saying that PM Modi consumes mushrooms worth Rs 4 lakh daily to maintain his ‘fair complexion’, but since that statement, Alpesh Thakor His political career changed completely. He is contesting the 2022 Gujarat elections as a BJP candidate from Gandhinagar South.
Jignesh Mevani is the only leader among the young trio of Gujarat who is still standing firm against the BJP. Jignesh Mevani, 41, led a statewide protest by the Dalit community in response to the July 2016 atrocity in Una. Jignesh Mevani started being recognized in the country only after this movement.
In the last assembly elections, Mevani won the Vadgam seat as an independent candidate with the support of the Congress. But, in this election, Jignesh Mevani is the official candidate of Congress from Vadgam.
