Morbi Bridge Collapse Case: The Morbi Municipality has appealed to the Gujarat government to release documents seized by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing a bridge collapse incident in the town a few months back. be returned to enable him to reply to the show-cause notice of the Government.

The government has asked in the notice that why the municipality should not be dissolved due to the bridge accident?  135 people lost their lives in this accident. A municipal official said all the documents are with the government-appointed SIT and the civic body has no papers.

When did the bridge collapse?
The British-era suspension bridge over the Machchu river in Morbi collapsed on October 30, 2022. In this case, the state government had last week issued a show-cause notice in the Morbi incident and asked why the municipality should not be dissolved for not discharging its responsibility.

The state’s Urban Development Department has directed the municipality to give a written explanation in the notice by January 25. The bridge was operated and maintained by the Oreva Group as per an agreement with Morbi Municipality.

Morbi Municipality passes resolution
The Morbi Municipality passed a resolution in a meeting on Monday requesting the government to return the documents seized by its SIT. After the meeting, the vice-chairman of the municipality, Jairaj Singh Jadeja, gave this information to the reporters and said that the documents are necessary to reply to the show-cause notice of the government.
