England captain Eoin Morgan has heaped praise on Jos Buttler, calling him the best player in limited-overs cricket after the scored an unbeaten 162 off 70 balls in a 232-run victory of England over the Netherlands in Amstelveen. Morgan also spoke about the importance of playing ODI cricket going into the World Cup next year in India.

Buttler, speaking about his current form, said that he could not have had a better season in the Indian Premier League (IPL), adding that he came into the ODI with a good touch. He felt that after not playing cricket for two months, following the T20 World Cup and the Ashes, he came into the IPL with a lot of motivation to get the best out of himself.

He is in a world of his own: Eoin Morgan

“The last couple of days have been great. Feels good to be among this group. To post a big score like that and then Jos coming in at the end and he is in a world of his own, it is absolutely amazing – probably the reason why he is the best white-ball cricketer in the world,” Morgan was quoted by India Today.

“When the guys come in and play with the mantra we have been playing for the last 6 years, it’s great. We have not played a lot of 50-over cricket recently, it’s important to have such situations going into the World Cup in India next year,” he added.

England batters were relentless from the get-go even though they lost their opener Jason Roy early before the Dawid Malan and opener Phil Salt added 222 runs for the second wicket. Then came Buttler at No. 4 with some mad hitting alongside Liam Livingstone who scored a 17-ball fifty, as England amassed a world-record total of 498 runs.

The game was all but over in the second innings, however, the hosts put up a respectable total of 266 in 49.4 overs, with opener Max O’Dowd scoring a run-a-ball 55 and their wicketkeeper-batter Scott Edwards scoring an unbeaten 72 off 56 balls. The second game of the three-match ODI series will be played on June 19 (Sunday) in Amstelveen.
