The Bill has been passed this year
It is worth noting that in April this year, the State Assembly had passed the Gujarat Cattle Control Bill in Urban Areas, in which cattle owners are allowed to keep such animals in cities. A license is required for this. Failure to obtain a license can also result in a prison sentence. Following protests by the Maldhari community against the bill, Bharatiya Janata Party’s Gujarat unit chief CR Patil said in April that he had requested Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel to reconsider it as municipal corporations have been working to tackle the cattle menace in areas. Existing rules are sufficient for this and no new law is needed.
