Holding onto the top slot in T20I batter rankings, Suryakumar Yadav is having a dreamy 2022 and there seems no end to it. After wreaking havoc in recently concluded T20 World Cup 2022, he exploded again during the second T20I against New Zealand on November 20. Yadav, while coming at number three, smashed a stunning ton (111* off 51) to set the perfect tone of the game where India posted a challenging total of 191 runs.
After the match concluded, Yadav added how he is enjoying batting this way and also talked about the conversation he had with Hardik Pandya while being on the crease. The 32-year-old also threw light on how he is doing same things and same practice sessions in nets and they all are working out well for him.
“In T20 cricket, a hundred is always special. But it was also important for me to bat till the end, that’s what Hardik [Pandya, his partner in an 82-run stand for the fourth wicket] was telling me from the other end. Just try and play till the 18th-19th over, we need a score of 180-185, and really happy with the score on the board.
“I’m enjoying batting this way, I’ve been doing the same thing in the nets, all practice sessions and going out [to the middle], all these things happening, I’m very happy with that,” said Suryakumar Yadav after the match while speaking to broadcasters.
Talking about the 2nd T20I between New Zealand and India, Men in Blue were called out to bat first where they posted a huge target on the back of Surya’s brilliance. Ishan Kishan added 36 runs at the top while nothing substantial came from other batters. Tim Southee grabbed a hat-trick but it couldn’t disturb India’s plan much. While chasing the target, NZ batters couldn’t show enough courage to take hold of the crease for long and ended up getting wrapped on 126 runs where Kane Williamson (61) remained the lone warrior.
