In the honor of Wrestling Guru Lahuji Salve, BJP MLA demanded a mega competition

BJP Leader Demands mega Wrestling Event to Honor Lahuji Salve ) demanded the Maharashtra government to start a wrestling championship in his name. Padalkar said that Salve, born in 1794, learned wrestling from his father and became an expert wrestler, due to which he was given the title of ‘Vastad’ (or Ustad) and Salve also had a gymnasium in Ganj Peth, Pune.

Padalkar further said in a program, ‘I have asked Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to start Mega Wrestling. I will soon personally meet Fadnavis and request him to take immediate steps in this regard. The BJP leader said, ‘Salve had given protection to social reformer Mahatma Jyotiba Phule. Salve introduced wrestling in the villages and attracted many youth to this sport. However, the earlier Maharashtra government never honored him or named any scheme after him.’

Coming up with a proposal with the newly formed state government, Padalkar said,   Ji has been asked to start Mega Wrestling, even fully funded by the state. I will personally meet him and request him to take immediate steps in this regard. Due to the path-breaking work done by Jyotiba Phule and his wife Savitribai, the couple sometimes faced severe criticism and physical attacks. Lahuji, stood by them to protect them from attacks and helped in their social reforms. Phule also appreciated Lahuji for his dedication towards social work.
