The Indian Premier League now has 10 teams fighting for the coveted prize. With so many new names coming into the frame, the 2022 season was the perfect opportunity for any player to make his mark. Even though the established teams like Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians have been knocked out of the tournament, they did well in providing sufficient chances to the youngsters.

Adding on, with so many teams giving chances to the domestic players, this IPL was all about exposure. However, a few players unexpectedly made their debut this year. They were backed by the franchise to showcase their skills and they proved to be successful.

Here is look at 5 players who unexpectedly made their debut during IPL 2022:

5. Kumar Kartikeya

Even though everyone expected Tilak Verma to be a regular feature in the MI XI this year, few would have expected Kumar Kartikeya to burst into the main scene. The youngster has come a long way to be a part of the MI squad.

He has played 12 T20 matches and with an economy of 6.17, Kartikeya has been effective in the shortest format of the game. The spinner likes to keep it tight so that the bowlers from the other end can take their chances. For Madhya Pradesh, he has been a terrific asset in the domestic cricket circuit.

He made his debut against the Rajasthan Royals at the DY Patil Sports Academy this year. In the four games he has played, Kumar has picked five wickets. Adding on, he has been bowling with an impressive economy rate of 7.85 runs per over.

4. Simarjeet Singh

CSK have been not in its best form this season. They failed to win matches consistently but a big plus for their management has been the rise of Simarjeet Singh. Even though he has been a regular member of the Delhi side in domestic cricket, not many people had seen him perform.

Singh was in full action against Mumbai Indians as the seamer was able to choke the batsmen and pick up wickets. Even though CSK lost as they had posted a below-par total, everyone was highly impressed by Simarjeet’s efforts.

In 24 T20 games, he has picked 27 wickets at an economy rate of 7.50. If he gets along with someone like Deepak Chahar, they will form a solid pace attack for CSK. It will be interesting to see how the management handles his talent next year.

3. Hrithik Shokeen

Another player from the Mumbai Indians side, Hrithik Shokeen has been given some chances this year by Rohit Sharma. Even though he has been not that effective, he can grow into a better all-rounder if given consistent chances. With Rohit as his captain, he has got some solid backing.

Shokeen made his debut against the Chennai Super Kings at the DY Patil Sports Academy. In the four games in this season so far Shokeen has picked two wickets. He has a slightly expensive economy rate of 8.45, but these stats are bound to improve once he gets more games.

Talking about his batting, Shokeen has scored 43 runs with a mediocre strike rate of 89.58. As he bats down the order, the pressure has always been high for the 22-year-old. As of now, he has still got a few games to prove himself.

2. Kuldeep Sen

Kuldeep Sen is a fast bowler who can click the 145 kmph barrier regularly. He has been one of the finds of the season. Even though he has leaked runs in death overs, he will surely get better with experience.

Sen made his IPL debut against Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium. In the seven games this year, he has picked eight wickets. His economy rate can improve as it stands at 9.42 this season.

In the domestic circuit, Sen has played 25 games and has picked 20 wickets in the shortest format. Adding on, he has a better economy in his domestic career (8.56) as compared to IPL. It will be interesting to see how the RR management handles him the next season.

1. Mukesh Choudhary

The CSK management were shocked as the face of their bowling unit Deepak Chahar was injured. Later on, it became clear that he will not be available for the defending champions this year. However, MS Dhoni had a backup in the form of Mukesh Choudhary.

Choudhary has a poor economy rate of 9.22 in IPL 2022, but the best part about his efforts is his wickets tally. In 11 IPL games, the pacer has picked 16 wickets. Against MI, he was in full flow, in both the games.

Alongside Deepak Chahar, he can form a formidable bowling attack. Even though CSK had a terrible IPL this year, they have found their men for the next season. Choudhary’s ability to swing it both the ways will trouble any batsman of the highest order.
