The 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will kick off on 26th March 2022 with a blockbuster clash between last year’s finalists, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). This season will also be a bigger and grander one, as two new teams, Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans have joined the fray.

While the Lucknow side will be led by KL Rahul, the Gujarat Titans will be led by Hardik Pandya. However, a number of players might be missing for the first week for the various IPL franchises, either due to injury or due to the fact that they would be rendering their services for their countries.

Several Australian players who have been named in the Kangaroos’ ODI and T20 squad for the series against Pakistan will miss the opening week of the tournament. The likes of Aaron Finch, Pat Cummins, Glenn Maxwell, Josh Hazlewood, and Marcus Stoinis will not feature in the first week of the IPL.

While Finch and Cummins play for KKR, Maxwell and Hazlewood have been bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Stoinis renders his services for the Lucknow outfit.

West Indies and England players might also miss the first week of IPL 2022

Also, West Indies and England are currently involved in a three-match Test series, and this series will conclude only on 28th March. However, the IPL will commence on 26th March, and these players from England and the West Indies who are involved in the Test series might not be available for their respective franchises for the first week of the IPL.

Kyle Mayers, Alzaari Joseph, and Jonny Bairstow might most probably not feature in the opening week of the IPL. While Mayers was picked by the Lucknow franchise, Joseph was bought by the Gujarat Titans. Bairstow was picked by the Punjab Kings (PBKS) franchise. And finally, while swashbuckling opener Jason Roy pulled out of the tournament, pacer Mark Wood has been sidelined from the entire tournament because of an elbow issue.
