Gujarat Titans notched up their second consecutive win of the season on Saturday (April 2) beating the Delhi Capitals by 14 runs. Shubman Gill and Lockie Ferguson were the star players for the Hardik Pandya-led side as the team continued to impress and became only the second side to defend a total so far in the tournament.
After being put in to bat first, the Titans were led by Gill’s excellent half-century who scored 84 runs while Hardik Pandya (31) and David Miller (20*) also scored crucial runs for them. Eventually, they managed to post 171/6 in their 20 overs with Mustafizur Rahman being the star bowler for DC with figures of 3/23 in his four overs.
DC struggle in the chase
In response, the Capitals lost three quick wickets and were struggling at 34/3 in the fifth over of the innings. However, a 61-run stand between Lalit Yadav and Rishabh Pant brought them back in the game But once their partnership was broken and especially after Pant got out in the 15th over, the Capitals lost their way completely.
Lockie Ferguson and Mohammed Shami ran through their line-up with the former ending with the figures of 4/28. DC, in the end, could only reach 157 runs for the loss of nine wickets, falling 14 runs short of the target.

Was one of those nights and with the kind of bowling partners I have, makes things very easy for me. It’s great (to have a potent bowling unit) and helps to spread calmness in the group. The pressure was coming from both ends with the ball and it worked for us.
I think it (bowling extra fast) is more of an instinct thing. There was a lot of bounce in the surface and I was looking to bang away on that hard length. Some gripped and it worked for me with Rishabh’s wicket. Was a good all-round performance from the bowlers.
Hardik is always giving us confidence to play the game that we want to play and it’s nice to have a captain who trusts your skills.

Really happy with the way boys are coming out and contributing. The kind of attack we have, we always felt that we can make a score that’s 10 under-par look like 25 above. I thought there were periods where Delhi were ahead, but then that Lockie over really changed things for us.
We were about 10-15 short. But with the bowling we have, I’m confident of making it up in the field. We were one bowler short with Aaron’s injury, had to take it as deep as possible and it worked for us.
Till Rishabh was there, the game was in the balance or may be Delhi was ahead, and that over from Lockie really turned it for us. This is the Shubman we all want to see and I hope all the other batters can take confidence from him.
DC skipper, Rishabh Pant said:
I think according to the wicket that total was not so big. We could have batted well especially in the middle overs, we lost three wickets in the powerplay and three in the middle. I think every match is going to be hard after losing so many wickets.
Depending on the weather conditions (we will decide to bat or bowl first), but we are not thinking about that now and we will see when we come back to Pune. He (Ponting) has been amazing since day one. When you lose you feel heartbroken but at the end of the day if you keep improving and have a better environment then people can perform in the next match.
