The seventh match of the IPL 2022 witnessed a clash between the defending champions- Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the new entrants of the season- Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). CSK made three changes to their side, with Devon Conway, Adam Milne, and Mitchell Santner making way for Moeen Ali, Mukesh Choudhary, and Dwaine Pretorious. LSG made just one change and made way for Andrew Tye, who replaced pacer Mohsin Khan.

Put to bat first, CSK opener Ruturaj Gaikwad failed to perform yet again as he was run out in the third over. Robin Uthappa didn’t leave any chance to hit the big shots as his fierce batting skills helped CSK maintain a good run rate. He was dismissed after scoring his half-century, but CSK’s strong batting order kept hitting the ball towards the fence.

Some quick runs from Moeen Ali (35), Ambati Rayudu (27), and Shivam Dube (49), and a combined effort from every batter till the end helped CSK take their total to 210/7 which constituted of 24 fours and eight sixes. The dew played a big role in the game and it was a challenge for CSK to defend the total in order to open their winning account.

LSG defeat CSK by six wickets

LSG openers started off really well, much better than how CSK did as KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock put up a brilliant 99 runs partnership. Thanks to Moeen Ali and Tushar Deshpande, De Kock and Rahul got an extra life in the game. It was the newcomer Pretorious, who got the first breakthrough for CSK when he dismissed the LSG skipper.

But De Kock seemed to be unstoppable as he went on to get his first half-century (61 off 45) with the LSG. Manish Pandey was dismissed as soon as he entered the game, but after De Kock’s dismissal, Ewin Lewis stirred the game for his team. It was a cut-throat competition between the two teams as LSG batters kept covering up the score to level the game.

Lewis (55 off 23) and Ayush Badoni sealed the deal for LSG as they smashed Shivam Dube for 25 runs in the 19th over and finished off the game with multiple boundaries. They chased down 211 runs with three balls to spare, in the last over and handed CSK their second defeat in the tournament.
