But according to sources, preparations have started for President Ram Nath Kovind after his retirement at 12 Janpath, which is one of the biggest bungalow in Lutyens’ Delhi.

Home decoration work is going on in full swing. 12 Janpath was allotted to former Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan for three decades, where his family continued to live after his death in 2020. Later the central government vacated this house. According to the report of The Hindu, two sources related to the matter told that the new bungalow is being prepared for President Ram Nath Kovind and his family. Although it has not been allotted yet.

President’s press secretary Ajay Kumar Singh declined to comment on the question whether President Kovind would stay in Delhi after retirement, that too at 12 Janpath.

12 Janpath was once a stronghold of the Lok Janshakti Party. Ram Vilas Paswan lived in this house for 30 years. In 2004, this house was still in the news when Sonia Gandhi came here from her residence 10 Janpath to seek Paswan’s support to form the UPA government.

If President Kovind is not re-elected, as a former President, he will be able to live in a furnished house with its maintenance, as per the Presidential Emoluments and Pensions Act, 1951, without paying any license fee and secretarial staff.

His tenure is ending on July 25. Presidential elections could be held in early July. Except Dr. Rajendra Prasad, no President has completed two terms.
