Vishnu ji rests in Ksheer Sagar for four months from Devshayani Ekadashi of Ashadh month, hence this period is called Chaturmas. Manglik work in Chaturmas like Marriage, mundan, housewarming, upanayan rites are prohibited. Chaturmas is a period of self-restraint of four months, in which chanting, penance, self-study, recitation of worship are auspicious and fruitful. During this period, the effect of divine powers decreases and the power of demons increases, so it is said that doing auspicious work in Chaturmas does not yield its results.
