Dhumavati Jayanti 2023: Ashtami date of Shukla Paksha of Jyestha month is known as Dhumavati Jayanti. 10 Mahavidyas were originated from Goddess Sati, the better half of Lord Shiva, Maa Dhumavati is one of them. This is the seventh Mahavidya, also known as Alakshmi.

This year Dhumavati Jayanti will be celebrated on 28 May 2023. According to the Panchang, the Ashtami Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Jyeshtha month will start at 07.43 am on May 27, 2023 and will end the next day on May 28, 2023 at 09.57 am.

On the day of Dhumavati Jayanti, the householders should offer Aak flowers, white cloth, saffron, Akshat, ghee, white sesame, dhatura, aak, barley, supari durva, gangajal, honey, camphor, sandalwood, coconut panchmeva to the mother. After this, chant ‘Om Dhun Dhun Dhumavati Swaha’ mantra with a rosary of Rudraksh. It is said that reciting this mantra 108 times by mixing salt in mustard and sacrificing it in Havan destroys the enemies. On the other hand, by doing homam of neem leaves and ghee, one gets freedom from debt. Poverty runs away.

According to the legend, once Mother Parvati started feeling hungry, she urged Lord Shiva to arrange food very quickly, but even after a long time, the food did not come, so she swallowed Shiva. Then smoke started coming out from the body of Goddess Parvati. Lord Shiva came out of her stomach and said that you have swallowed your husband. Henceforth you will live in the form of a widow and will be known as Dhumavati.
