On the day of Dhumavati Jayanti, the householders should offer Aak flowers, white cloth, saffron, Akshat, ghee, white sesame, dhatura, aak, barley, supari durva, gangajal, honey, camphor, sandalwood, coconut panchmeva to the mother. After this, chant ‘Om Dhun Dhun Dhumavati Swaha’ mantra with a rosary of Rudraksh. It is said that reciting this mantra 108 times by mixing salt in mustard and sacrificing it in Havan destroys the enemies. On the other hand, by doing homam of neem leaves and ghee, one gets freedom from debt. Poverty runs away.

Then smoke started coming out from the body of Goddess Parvati. Lord Shiva came out of her stomach and said that you have swallowed your husband. Henceforth you will live in the form of a widow and will be known as Dhumavati.
