CBI FIR In Funds Misused Case: The CBI on Monday registered an FIR of cheating and criminal conspiracy against former president of Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha (DBHPS) Shivayogi R Niralkatti and other unknown persons. The agency said the grant was released by the erstwhile Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (now Ministry of Education), which was allegedly embezzled by Shivayogi R Niralkatti, the then working chairman of DBHPS.

It was alleged in the FIR, "Scrutiny revealed that Central Government grant in respect of payment of honorarium to teachers for promotion of Hindi was diverted by DBHPS, Dharwad for payment of salary to Principals, teachers, clerk and assistant of B.Ed College under DBHPS, Karnataka. was used for.’’

Rapture of 5.78 crores

After preliminary investigation, CBI took action. Investigation revealed that during 2004-05 to 2016-17, DBHPS, Dharwad siphoned off Rs 5.78 crore for Hindi promotion through 600 teachers and unauthorisedly diverted the same for payment of salaries to employees of B.Ed College. amount used. The agency also alleged that the accused exaggerated the details of profit and loss and made false statements to the Central Government. 

What is DBHPS

DBHPS is headquartered in Chennai. The institute works to improve Hindi literacy among non-Hindi speaking people in South India. In the year 1964, the Government of India through an Act of Parliament recognized DBHPS as an Institute of National Importance.
