ED Action Against Sanjay Raut News: In Maharashtra’s Patra Chawl land scam case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) today arrested Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut. 1. Sanjay Raut was interrogated for about nine hours in the money laundering case related to Patra Chawl scam, after which the ED took him into custody. After his arrest, Raut said that you cannot defeat him, who never gives up. Raut was found in a ‘chawl’ in Mumbai. and his wife and other ‘colleagues’ Was summoned by the ED for questioning in a money laundering case related to alleged irregularities in transactions involving K.K. 

2. Raut had appeared before the agency in Mumbai on July 1 to record his statement in the matter. After this, the agency had summoned him twice, but he did not appear citing being busy in the current Parliament session.

3. ED officials along with Central Industrial Security Force personnel reached Raut’s residence ‘Maitri’ in Bhandup suburb at 7 am on Sunday and started raids. Meanwhile, Raut, a Rajya Sabha member, has denied any wrongdoing and alleged that he is being targeted to seek political vendetta.

4. Sanjay Raut tweeted shortly after the ED action, ‘‘I swear by late Balasaheb Thackeray that I have no connection with any scam.’’ He wrote, ‘‘I will die, but will not leave Shiv Sena.’’

5. During ED’s raid, Shiv Sena supporters gathered in large numbers outside Raut’s residence and protested against the agency’s action. Supporters raised slogans against the agency with saffron-coloured flags and banners in their hands. At the same time, Raut shook hands at the supporters from the window of the house. 

6. A large number of police forces have been deployed outside the ED office located in Ballard Estate area, an official said. He said that vehicular movement has been stopped and barricades have been put in place on the road leading to the ED office.

8. Asked about party leader Arjun Khotkar’s statement that he was forced by circumstances to join the rebel Shiv Sena camp, the Chief Minister said, ‘Did we invite him? Don’t come to us or BJP because of fear of ED or any other pressure.’’

9. BJP leaders in Maharashtra also said that if Raut has not done anything wrong then he need not fear. Former minister Girish Mahajan said, ‘Sanjay Raut is unnecessarily referring to late Balasaheb Thackeray and inciting Shiv Sena workers against the central government. If they haven’t done anything wrong, they need not fear.’’ BJP leader and former MP Kirit Somaiya said that Raut is still under investigation and charges have not been framed against him. He said, ‘‘He should not make any political comment now. If he is found to be involved (in any irregularity), he will have to face action.’’
