Sehban Azim on Spy Bahu going off-air on September 30; says, “We were expecting the show to run longer”

Sehban Azim who is still trying to digest the news of his show, Spy Bahu going off-air on September 30 talked about it during a recent interview with BT. He said, “Everyone was obviously sad on the last day of the shoot, as we were expecting the show to run longer. The story was nice and so were the cast and the production house. In fact, even the ratings were decent as compared to other shows on the channel. I guess we had to make way for Bigg Boss since it will air at 10 pm this season. I think there are more shows in the offing. They might come up with a 2.0 and I would love to take it up if it’s the same team.”

In contrast with his last show, Tujhse Hai Raabta, which ran for about three years, Spy Bahu is calling it a wrap-up in just over six months. When asked if he prefers infinite shows over finite shows, he replied, “When we know that we have signed a finite series, we don’t worry about the ratings. We approach it with that mindset. It is always wonderful to be aware of it in advance. However, when it is an infinite series and its fate depends on the ratings, we work harder towards getting better ratings. Agar ratings aaye toh outdoor ya international shoot schedule ho jaaye. As actors, our work and the show are judged on the basis of the ratings. So, one feels stuck as there is no proper yardstick to judge talent. Sometimes, a good show fails to clock in great ratings just because the TRP metre is not installed in households watching it. It is quite discouraging for an actor when something like that happens. People lose hope when their hard work and a great storyline are not supported by good ratings.”

He added, “There is no correlation between the ratings and a quality show. Even after so many years, I haven’t been able to figure out how TRP works. How it is counted? It’s always an approximation. So, we target those who have those meters installed and that’s really sad. Bas uski fight shuru ho jaati hai. I don’t know if a TV show should function like this. What we can do is give our best irrespective of the format of the show. Do your best and see what happens. I anyways have a problem with competition. No one acts like another. Unfortunately, we are conditioned to look at others and compete with them. TRPs bhi ussi tarah ka scene hai sab lade jaa rahe hain ussi fight mein. It also doesn’t a new concept to blossom, as everybody is trying to copy each other in a bid to generate more numbers I believe with no TRPs in play, people will see better content.”
