Violence Against Women: The ‘International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women’ is observed every year on 25 November. Before this, the statement of United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has come to the fore. Secretary-General Guterres said that violence against women and girls is the biggest violation of human rights in the world. Every 11 minutes a woman or girl is killed by her partner or family member.

The United Nations Secretary-General has appealed to governments to increase funding for women’s rights organizations and movements by 50 percent by 2026. He said that from the Corona epidemic to economic upheaval, other stresses also cause more physical and verbal abuse with women. Not only this, women face online violence every day.

It is time to end violence against women and girls. They urged governments to design, fund and implement national action programs to deal with these phenomena, and to involve civil society groups at every stage of decision-making. 

Violence against women at home is a serious issue 

Recently a United Nations (UN) report had revealed that violence in homes remains a serious issue. The report shows that globally more than 1 in 10 women and girls aged 15-49 have been victims of sexual and physical violence by an intimate partner in the past year.
