The contribution of captaincy Dhoni is most important in this success of CSK. In the qualifier match played against Gujarat Titans on Tuesday, Dhoni made a bet which made CSK’s victory easy.
Actually, Dhoni wanted to complete the quota of four overs of his star fast bowler Pathirana. Pathirana was brought in to bowl in the 11th over against Gujarat. After putting the first over of the spell, Pathirana went out of the ground for some time. Considering the importance of the match, Dhoni wanted Pathirana to bowl three out of the last five overs.
Dhoni’s trick did wonders
Dhoni cleverly found a solution to this problem. Dhoni got into a tussle with the umpires over the reason for stopping Pathirana from bowling. The debate between the umpires and Dhoni went on for five minutes. Meanwhile, the four-minute condition of Pathirana’s bowling was fulfilled. Dhoni succeeded in his ploy and got Pathirana’s quota fulfilled by the end of the match.
Pathirana lived up to Dhoni’s expectations and spent just 4 runs in the 18th over and also took a wicket. In the last two overs, the pressure on Gujarat Titans increased a lot. In the end, the Gujarat team got all out by scoring 157 runs while chasing a difficult target of 172 runs. In this way, Dhoni’s trick once again gave CSK an entry in the final.
