Shane Watson on Prithvi Shaw: The Delhi Capitals think tank is very upset with the performance of opener batsman Prithvi Shaw. Team’s assistant coach Shane Watson considers Prithvi Shaw responsible for the bad condition of Delhi Capitals. Significantly, in seven matches of this season, Prithvi Shaw has scored only 101 runs, out of which he has scored 54 runs in the last match. This means that he had 47 runs in 6 matches.
Before the start of IPL 2023, Delhi Capitals team head coach Ricky Ponting expressed hope that explosive batsman Prithvi Shaw will prove to be very successful this season and will win many matches to the team. However, this season the talented batsman failed to perform as expected.
Delhi Capitals assistant coach Shane Watson said ahead of the last league match against Chennai Super Kings, "One of the most disappointing parts of this IPL season for Delhi Capitals was Prithvi Shaw. I have always been a big fan of Prithvi and love watching Prithvi bat. As he did that night in Dharamshala, he is one of the most elegant batsmen around. He can compete with the best bowling with his skills."
Watson also raised questions on the Delhi pitch
Shane Watson said, "Look, to be completely honest, the pitches in Delhi are not very good. If you have a different setup for your team, then they’re probably great. If you have a lot of Indian top-order batsmen, that wicket will suit the team, but this is not the combination of our team."
Watson said, "We then saw what could really happen from our batting line-up with the overseas batsmen and Prithvi Shaw, which is our strength. But unfortunately, when we came here in Delhi, it was not easy to bat on this wicket."
