According to the news published on the ICC website, Symonds has an accident near Townsville in his home state of Queensland. The police have also confirmed his death. The Monkeygate dispute between him and Harbhajan Singh was very much discussed. Along with this, Symonds was also in the discussion due to his addiction to alcohol. 

Symonds played the last match of his international career against Pakistan on 7 May 2009. This T20 match was played in Dubai. Symonds remained in the news due to his alcohol addiction. According to media reports, he was dropped from T20 due to alcohol addiction. It was alleged that Symonds broke the rules related to drinking alcohol.
