Women trapped in part time job scam
According to a report in Times Now, a woman living in Noida’s Sector 61 was contacted by scammers on WhatsApp. Scammers offered part time job to the woman. In this job, the woman will only have to like, comment and share YouTube videos of various e-commerce websites. The scammers connected him to a Telegram group, where he was assigned some tasks. Initially, the fraudsters gave some money to the woman for every work to win her trust. However, later, he gave her a ‘prime task’ and in the process the woman lost Rs 4.38 lakh.
What steps did the government take?
The cases of such scams through WhatsApp are increasing day by day in the country. Sometime back people had also complained about receiving hoax videos as well as voice calls from international numbers. The magnitude of the scams has increased so much that the Government of India has had to intervene. The government has ordered WhatsApp to block accounts doing fraudulent activity.
Union Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said during the launch of the Department of Telecom’s Sanchar Sathi website that more than 36 lakh WhatsApp accounts have been banned in India and the company is cooperating to ensure the safety of people.
