The accused of gangrape and murder should be punished, CM Gehlot said – Government is committed to women’s safety

Rajasthan News: POCSO court sentenced two accused to death for gang-rape and murder of a tribal girl. Soon after the state chief sentenced the two accused to death, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday said his government was committed to the safety of women.

He said on Twitter that his government has appointed a special public prosecutor and the police have filed a chargesheet within three working days under a special scheme. The girl was gang-raped and murdered on December 23 in a forest in Bundi district.

Gehlot made several tweets and said, "This is the first case of POCSO law in the state, in which two convicts have been sentenced to death simultaneously. In the case of gangrape and murder of a minor in Bundi, both the accused have been sentenced to death by the court today. In this case, the state government had appointed special counsel and ‘Case Officer Scheme’. Under this, the police had presented the challan in three working days regarding the matter."

‘Government has taken many steps’
He said that such news keeps coming from every state which is a matter of concern for the whole country. Keeping this in mind, many steps were taken in the state. He said that first of all it was made mandatory to register an FIR for every crime and a separate cell was formed under the leadership of Additional Superintendent of Police to investigate women crimes.

Government committed for women’s safety
CM Gehlot said that the state government is committed to women’s safety and no one guilty of women’s crimes will be spared. They said, "After coming to our government, in the cases of POCSO law, 8 convicts were hanged, more than 137 were sentenced to life imprisonment, including a total of more than 620 convicts."

Earlier in the day, a POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act) court sentenced Sultan (27) and Chhotulal (62) to death and directed them to complete the sentence within the next 11 working days. The third accused in the case is a minor and has been sent to a correctional home.
