Mustafizur Rahman is serving the Bangladesh cricket team since 2015 and in these seven years, he has played spectacularly for his team by delivering standout displays. His debut against India grabbed the eyes of many cricket followers, and the performance emboldened him to deliver more to his team with his ferocious bowling attitude. His blockbuster shows gave him recognition in the cricketing world and he also became one of the renowned bowlers in the business.

By gaining immense popularity with his marvellous bowling, he soon got his Indian Premier League contract from the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in 2016. Playing his debut IPL season, the youngster didn’t miss a chance to show his capability. Playing 16 matches, he took 17 wickets at a majestic economy of 6.90. Till now, the Bangla Tiger has appeared in five seasons of the cash-rich league for different teams and he has delivered his best by delivering many match-winning spells.

Below are some of the best figures of Mustafizur Rahaman in IPL

1. 3/16 for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) Vs Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2016

In the 37th game of IPL 2016, defending champions Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad were ready to face each other, and with that SRH bowlers had to face the strong batting line-up of MI including Rohit Sharma, Jos Buttler, Kieron Pollard, and Ambati Rayudu. To outwit this kind of batting order, SRH needed to deliver disciplined bowling.

While batting first, SRH posted a total of 177 on the board with a loss of three wickets. To defend the target, the team was relying on the experienced Ashish Nehra and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, and both the bowlers delivered as per expectations by demolishing the top order of MI. On another side, young Mustafizur Rahman also chipped in by making the situation worse for MI by dismissing the lower middle-order batter Hardik Pandya cheaply at a score of 7.

Rahman also removed Tim Southee and Mitchell McClenaghan to help SRH to end the MI innings at a score of 92 and register a comprehensive victory of 85 runs. The youngster also became the highest wicket-taker of the match with Ashish Nehra for his brilliant figures of 3/16 in three overs.

2. 3/24 for Mumbai Indians (MI) vs Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in 2018

Playing for his new franchise Mumbai Indians, Mustafizur again showed his sharp bowling skills by having a great time against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the seventh match. Defending an average score of 147, it was imperative for the MI bowlers to do wonders to emerge victorious in the game. With batters such as Shikhar Dhawan, Kane Williamson, Manish Pandey, Shakib Al Hasan, and Yusuf Pathan, the target was not difficult to chase for SRH

Both SRH openers Wriddhiman Saha and Shikhar Dhawan with their fearless batting approach pursued the target fearlessly by scoring 62 runs in just 6.5 overs. But Mayank Markande showed some courage by dismissing Saha but the perfect strike was done by Mustafizur Rahman by removing Kane Williamson from the crease on 6. With Williamson’s wicket, MI came back into the game with amazing bowling displays from Mustafizur,  Markande, and Jasprit Bumrah.

In the end, SRH won the match by one wicket, but with Bumrah and Markande, Mustafizur again proved his potential with the ball by giving a tough time to SRH batters by delivering excellent figures of 3/24 in four overs.

3. 3/20 for Rajasthan Royals (RR) vs Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in 2021

In 2021, the Bangla bowler played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after a gap of three years. This time, Rajasthan Royals believed in him by buying him at the amount of INR 1 crore, and in the 28th match of the tournament against the SRH, he was included in the playing XI to reinforce the team’s bowling line-up with other bowlers such as Chris Morris, Kartik Tyagi, and Chetan Sakariya.

In the game, RR batters put up a colossal score of 220, and to achieve that, SRH had to deliver extraordinary performance by subduing the bowling line-up of RR. Chasing the giant total, the opening batters Manish Pandey and Jonny Bairstow started swiftly by racking up 57 in six overs. But it was Mustafizur who spoiled their endeavour by sending Pandey back to the pavilion on the 31.

Later he also bagged the wicket of Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan to put more pressure on his old IPL team. With the regular fall of wickets, SRH never looked anywhere in the contest and gave up the match by scoring only 165/8. In RR’s 55-run triumph, Mustafizur was their best bowler due to his bowling effort of 3/20 in four overs.

4. 3/23 for Delhi Capitals (DC) vs Gujarat Titans (GT) in 2022

Delhi Capitals were locking horns with the new franchise Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022. Both teams after their first win were looking to continue the momentum by winning their second contest. With the toss in DC’s favour, skipper Rishabh Pant invited GT to bat first, and on the third delivery of the first over, Mustafizur delivered a breakthrough to his team by getting dangerous Matthew Wade at the score of 1.

In the game, Shubhman Gill’s innings of 84 runs helped Gujarat to sail comfortably and put up a fine score of 171 at the loss of six wickets. The target could’ve got bigger if Rahman had not dismissed Rahul Tewatia who was in good touch by scoring 14 off just 8 deliveries.

In the game, his bowling display brought cheers to the faces of DC fans. Throughout the innings, he was unplayable for GT batters due to his shrewd bowling. The Bangla bowler ended his spell by giving only 23 runs and bagging three wickets. At the end of the game, DC came out as a losing side by falling 14 runs short, but Mustafizur’s with his bowling performance strived his best to put his team in a dominating position.

5. 3/18 for Delhi Capitals (DC) vs Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2022

In the 41st game of the IPL 2022, Delhi Capitals were facing Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. DC skipper Rishabh Pant after winning the toss chose to bowl first and to prove his decision right, DC bowlers didn’t shy away from giving their best. Going out against the strong batting line-up of KKR that included big names such as Aaron Finch, Shreyas Iyer, and Andre Russel, DC bowlers Mustafizur Rahman and Kuldeep Yadav looked spunky.

With a fine start delivered by Yadav, the KKR top-order collapsed, and then Mustafizur’s amazing bowling added insult to injury as the Bangladesh bowler wrecked the opponent’s lower middle order by clinching the wickets of Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh. In the last over of his innings, he also hunted Tim Southee to restrict KKR on a mere 146.

By spending only 15 runs and taking three wickets, Rahman played a crucial role in helping DC triumph over KKR. At the end of the game, Kuldeep Yadav became the player of the match for his spell of 4/14 but the 27-year-old Mustafizur also received appreciation for his fierce bowling.
