Anadolu news agency reported that during a re-trial on the charges against him, the Istanbul High Criminal Court sentenced Oktar to 8,658 years in prison on a number of charges, including sexual abuse and deprivation of liberty. The agency said the court also sentenced 10 other suspects to 8,658 years in prison. 

Oktar, whom critics see as a cult leader, has faced criticism for his programs on the online A9 television channel and  He was condemned by many Turkish religious leaders. In a major crackdown on his entire group, he was taken into custody in 2018 following an investigation by the Financial Crimes Unit of the Istanbul Police. This year he has now been sentenced to 8,658 years.
