UN gave ‘Champions of the Earth’ award to Dr. Poornima Devi Barman, know what is her achievement

Champions Of The Earth: Indian wildlife scientist Dr. Poornima Devi Barman has been awarded the United Nations’ highest environmental award Champions of the Earth. Burman has been given this honor for his transformative action to prevent erosion of ecological systems.

Women make and sell stork-like masks, helping to raise awareness of the endangered species as well as their financial independence. According to the UNEP website, at the age of five, Barman was sent to live with his grandmother near the Brahmaputra River in Assam.

Champions of the Earth awardee Dr. Poornima Devi Burman said, "I saw cranes and many other species of birds. She (grandmother) taught me songs related to birds. He asked me to sing for herons and storks and then I fell in love with birds."

PM Modi has also got the honor

Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi has been awarded the United Nations’ highest environmental award Champions of the Earth in 2018. Honored by UN Secretary-General Guterres. Champions of the Earth is awarded for contribution in the field of environment.  April 21 this year‚ On 2022, UNEP announced the prestigious Champions of the Earth Lifetime Achievement Award 2021 to Sir David Attenborough, the famous nature conservationist of Britain.
