Shahbaz becomes Pakistan’s new unopposed
After voting, 70-year-old Shahbaz Sharif was elected unopposed by Parliament as the new Prime Minister of Pakistan, when rival candidate Shah Mehmood Qureshi announced That his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party would boycott the polls and walk out. Shahbaz Sharif got 174 votes – two more than the simple majority of 172. He is the 23rd Prime Minister of Pakistan.
Nawaz can return from London after Eid
Mian Javed Latif, a senior leader of PML-N Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif can return to his homeland from London after Eid next month. Eid will be celebrated in the first week of May. The 72-year-old PML-N leader has since been sacked as prime minister by Pakistan’s Supreme Court in July 2017 in the Panama Papers case Imran Khan has started many corruption cases.
Sharif had gone to London for four weeks in November 2019 for treatment. He was allowed to go abroad by the Lahore High Court. He had given an affidavit in the High Court that he would return to the country as soon as the doctors declared him fit and fit to travel within four weeks or earlier.
Sharif was also granted bail in the Al-Azizia Mills corruption case, in which he was serving a seven-year jail term in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail.
