Who will be the next Chief Justice of the country? Law Ministry writes to CJI NV Ramana

Supreme Court Of India: The Ministry of Law and Justice wrote a letter to the office of Chief Justice (CJI) Justice NV Ramana on Wednesday as the new CJI. to initiate the process of recommending the names of The CJI is retiring on August 26.

As per the established convention, the CJI recommends the name of the senior-most judge as his successor. Justice Uday Umesh Lalit is second only to Justice Raman in the order of seniority. Under the Memorandum Process (MOP) relating to the process of appointment of judges in the higher judiciary, the outgoing CJI starts the process of recommending the name of the successor after receiving a letter from the Law Ministry.

NV Ramana is the 48th Chief Justice of the country
Justice Lalit, if appointed as the next CJI, will have a tenure of less than three months and he will retire on November 8. At present, Justice Nathalapati Venkat Ramana is the 48th Chief Justice of India. He was recommended by former judge Justice SA Bobde.
